Praise

1. We were able to have the entire Easter weekend off and we are both healthy!! So nice to have the extra rest.

2. The trip to Vitoria was a blessing, it was a time of very fruitful ministry, and my class of Revelation is going well.

3. Gary has turned in all the assignments for his first two classes from this last January. Huge relief, fantastic classes!!

Pray

1. The ministry that has been underwriting our Day Camps has decided to focus on works where they have their own properties. That means there will be no more Day Camps in all of Word of Life Brazil. Pray we will have wisdom to know how to move forward with this ministry.

2. We are having meetings this week with a couple of companies that provide solar energy. This would be a major initial expense but would provide us with significant savings for the foreseeable future.

3. This week we will be having special classes on strategic planning for our first-year students. Pray for Ray Adams, our teacher and Gary who will be translating.

Thanks for your prayers,

Gary & Sandy

Praise
1. The meetings in São Paulo and the 12 hour car trip were great opportunities for ministry and it was a great blessing to be able to serve in these conferences. We praise God for safe travel and meaningful ministry.

2. The Day Camp ministry went really well, with 340 kids presents 84 of which professed decisions for Christ.

3. We are making great progress on the fund raising for the camp and conference dormitories. $65,000 of the $80,000 has been raised.

Pray
1. Today (Saturday) Gary will be teaching the book of Revelation all day and then speaks at our church tomorrow.

2. Sandy has been fighting a bad virus this last week, several on the campus have had it so please pray that she get better and that I don’t catch it.

3. Next weekend Gary will travel back to Vitoria, Espirito Santo to speak in two churches and then teach a class on Perspectives of World Missions.

Praise

1. Our time of ministry in Vitoria, Espirito Santo went very well, and God used some members from the church there to give a very generous offering to our new dorm project.

2. The students have arrived, and we have 105 students this year! This is the first time we have broken the 100 number. It has been a great start so far.

3. The transitions on our staff seem to be going very well and the general sense that we have is that these changes are being effective for the ministry as a whole.

Pray

1. This week Sandy and I fly to Sao Paulo where Gary will be speaking four times at a national convention for Perspectives of World Missions, then at a church, followed by meetings at our headquarters for three days. (returning 3/1)

2. Friday March 2nd Gary will be driving for 12 hours to speak at a church conference over the weekend and then driving the 12 hours back on Monday the 5th. Please pray for a safe trip, with no car troubles as these roads can be rather challenging and for an impactful ministry.

3. This week we are hosting Day Camps and are expecting about 300 kids. Pray for them to clearly understand the Gospel, for many decisions to be made and safety for all.

Thanks for your prayers,

Gary & Sandy

Praise
1. Gary just finished his first two modules for the DMin degree through Dallas Theological Seminary that was offered right here on our campus. It was a fantastic start and we are thankful for a generous church and dear friend who have committed to providing a full scholarship.

2. We just finished hosting a retreat here on campus with all the missionaries from the River Ministry. It has been great to have them all here and this is the first time that all the staff from northern Brazil has been together.

3. It looks like we are going to have a record breaking year for our student body. If all goes as anticipated, we should top 100 students for the first time.

Pray
1. On Thursday of this week Sandy and I will be flying to southern Brazil to speak at a church family conference. Gary will be speaking six times so pray for strength, safe travel and productive ministry.

2. We are discussing the potential of installing solar energy on our campus. It would be a huge help to us financially to be able to do this, but requires a large initial investment.

3. Pray for our staff as we are making some transitions in our leadership structure and have some new missionaries joining us as well. Pray God will give us all wisdom.

Thanks for your prayers,

Gary & Sandy

PRAISE:
1. We had a wonderful Christmas and New Year with all of the kids at home with us. We are so happy they could come and so proud of all God is doing in and through them.
2. The ministry was able to close out 2017 with all our bills current. This has been a challenge with the economic crisis in Brazil.
3. We are finishing our second week of camp in all we had about 350 campers plus staff with many decisions for Christ. Gary speak at the campfire service tonight.

PRAY:
1. For the next two weeks we will be hosting, and Gary will be taking the first two modules of the Doctorate in Ministry program that Dallas Theological Seminary is offering in Brazil. Pray all will go well and for great growth in our lives.
2. Pray for our kids as they return to their lives. Mishaela was just promoted to a new position at Children’s Hunger Fund, Joshua is overseeing the opening of a second location for their church and Mackenzie is preparing to return for a second year in Portugal.
3. Due to budget constraints, we are letting three of our employees go. This is always hard for us to do and we would appreciate your prayers for them and their families and pray there won’t be any legal issues that often arise in Brazil with this sort of thing.

Thanks for your prayers,

Gary & Sandy, Mishaela, Joshua & Hilary and Mackenzie

PRAISE:
1. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday with Gary’s dad and a staff family. God has given so many gracious gifts!
2. Gary’s dad returned safely from his survey trip with Sipp and two pastors along the Trans Amazon “highway”. They were able to make many good contacts and we are starting to form a plan for how we might help the church expand to the unreached communities there.
3. This week we have had over 400 kids on campus for day camps and many of them made professions of faith.

PRAY:
1. Please continue to pray for Gary’s dad as he adjusts to being without Cleide.
2. This weekend Gary will finish teaching Romans Saturday morning. Then we will drive about five hours to a neighboring state where we will be speaking at a couple’s banquet and then at a church on Sunday. Pray for strength, safety, the car to run well and productive ministry.
3. There are two more weeks of school. Pray for the staff and students to have the strength to finish the semester well.

Thanks for your prayers,
Gary & Sandy,

PRAISE:
1. Last week Tutuca, our camp director’s wife, had her appendix burst and she was 8 months pregnant. It took them 72 hours to discover the problem. It is an amazing miracle that both her and the baby are doing very well.
2. Mackenzie has been feeling much better lately and was able to join the staff from Portugal on an evangelistic trip to Spain for a week.
3. We have been able to negotiate a new deal with our internet provider that should resolve our issues with internet on campus by the end of the year at no cost to us.

PRAY:
1. Gary’s dad, a couple of Pastors and a staff member are taking a two-week trip down the Trans Amazonian highway to survey the need for churches in that area. Pray that they will have safety on precarious roads, gain an accurate vision for what needs to be done and that it will be therapeutic as dad recovers from Cleide's death.
2. This weekend Gary will be teaching the book of Romans all day Saturday at our leadership training school on campus. He is also speaking at our church on Sunday.
3. We are building a new staff house that we need to be ready for the start of school next year as all our housing for staff and married students is full. Pray we can get this accomplished.

Thanks for your prayers,
Gary & Sandy

PRAISE:
1. Cleide is with the Lord. It may seem strange to put this in the Praise section, but we are very happy for her to be done with the suffering on the earth and in the presence of God. She was a blessing to our family and to this ministry in so many ways. Her funeral was honoring to the Lord and impacted the lives of many. She finished well.
2. Last Saturday, right after the funeral, I had the privilege of speaking in an open air evangelistic meeting celebrating 500 years of the Reformation. There were over a thousand that gathered and the response was encouraging.
3. Several weeks ago I asked you to pray for my schedule with the study program that I have started. It has been a very grueling schedule, but I am thoroughly enjoying the studies and have been able to turn everything in on time so far. I have a VERY long way to go still but am happy with the progress.

PRAY:
1. Please pray for Gary’s dad as he adjusts to being a widower again. He is very strong, in good health and has been an example to all of us but I know that he is hurting.
2. This weekend Gary will be teaching the book of Romans all day Saturday at our leadership training school on campus and then he speaks twice on Sunday.
3. Our daughter Mackenzie has been struggling with some health issues in Portugal for the last month. Please pray that she will not be discouraged and that they can find out what is causing her symptoms.

Thanks for your prayers,
